Comments:

I have been and done many things. M.Div. from Northern Baptist Seminary led to a three year career in the Ministry followed by social work with Children and Family Services in Chicago. During which time I entered acting training and then worked as a professional actor in Chicago until 1984 at which time I moved to the Northwest(Seattle),received my second Master's degree in applied behavioral science followed by my career as a Psychotherapist in a Seattle Mental Health agency where I have been for nearly 21 years. I just recently retired and am now adjusting to the reinvention of me.Two themes have followed me throughout my life: my work in theater and performing in many venues although I haven't worked professionally since 1984. Second, I continue my spiritual quest having traveled light years from where I started.
I married my second wife in 1988 and we continue our marvelous journey together after these many years. I have three grandchildren and my parents are still very alive at 94.
Some of you might remember that I was stricken with Polio when I was 13 at the beginning of the 8th grade. I transcended the disabilities resulting from that encounter by singing, dancing and acting as a performer for a number of years. But many of us who had polio, in our advanced years now live with the aftermath known as post polio syndrome. I am no longer able to dance as I once did but as is said " you can take the man out of the dance but you can't take the dance out of the man". And so it goes for me. I believe I discovered my true destiny as a psychotherapist but continue some theater non professionally in the community. However,I've already started my next adventure which is to be an artist focusing on watercolor painting. Maybe they'll call me grandpa Moses.

School Story:

It was devastating to me then but hilarious when I think of it now. It was our English teacher, Miss Schweikert's ultimate self esteem smasher. She would ask a question and if you were pointed out you were required to stand and give the correct answer. If one failed to answer correctly the next statement from dear Miss Schweikert was searing and unforgettable; "SIT DOWN,WRONG,NEXT". gEE, i HOPE i SPELED EVERYTHING RITE.

Hey Bill, I guess we can consider ourselves old now or will that be when we're 90? It was great seeing you on our zoom reunion with Dick Lowenthal and hope to see you on the next one. I wanted to talk with you but that didn't happen.Anyway, I hope this birthday is a grand celebration.
My heartfelt love to you and Nina.May this be a year of blessing for your family.

Hi Phyllis, It was so lovely to share our thoughts with one anotherSo here are a few more on your Happy Birthday'
Life here at the Kenney has been envigorating for us active seniors but sometimes sad and painful when our new friends pass on to the next adventure.. happy for them and sad for us
who suffer the loss. I'm still enjoying the volunteering in the memory care unit here at the Kenney, ministering to thosse who are experiencing life in a demented state of being. Emotional feelings and sense of connection to varying degrees remains. My wife is directing our singing chorus, the Kenney singers of which I am a part. In our recent performance at our facility, I got to sing "If I were a rich man" from Fiiddler. What a hoot. Not quite ready for prime time but what fun we had putting it together.
Let me know what's happenning with you and for goodness sake, have a Happy Birthday. Hey, after all, we're in our 80th year of life on this troubled planet.

Till next time, Fondly,

Steve Marmer

Hi Bill, It's remakable that we are 78 now( well, not quite for me yet. My date is July 31, remembering how much younger I am than you, but you still hold the mantle of wisdom. Nancy and I have have weathered the covid isolation with success so far but really miss going to theater, dance and Opera with friends.. Nancy is still working on her book, untitled as yet, and I still enjoy pursuing my art with three artist buddies and my son David is pursuing his art in Alabama. My daughter, kirsten continues her nursing career in Colorado where she lives with her husband and new one year old child who was born in the Ukraine. I talk with my 17 year old grandson, Kaden every week and my granddaughter(14) Teagen not quite as often. My health is reasonanbly vital but my mobility is quite compromised but I can still cut a mean rug on my mechanical scooter. As long as I have working arms, I still consider my self a dancer.I trust you and Nina will have a great summer in spite of our constraints.
Have a fulfilling birthday,

warmly,

Steve

Hey Bill, Here's that day again and you beat me to it again.. We are living now in a vibrant retirement community and even though the numbers say we're old now, in this community we're considered two of the kids. I lived through a quadruple bypass 2 and 1/2 months ago and am traveling through a remarkable recovery but I won't be auditioning for one of the dancers in Chorus Line.

Have a happy, happy Birthday.

Warmly,

Steve Marmer
