With the passing of Carol Watanabe Starrett, there is far less goodness and kindness in our world.  Always positive, never complaining despite all her health challenges, she was perpetually interested in others. I am so fortunate to have been privileged to call Carol my friend.  May she rest in peace.  May her son, Scott, and all her family  be comforted in their grief.  Evie Brod

Classmates,

I have been inextricably connected to Carol Watanabe since we appeared together in a photo, with her hands wrapped around my flexed biceps, in the 1960 WHHS Yearbook, as "Most Athletic" in our Senior class.

How I came in ahead of John Robisch, I'll never know.   Someone in our class might remember who, if anyone, was a close second to Carol.   It matters not!

We were all so busy then, of course, and now, without looking, I don't know in which sports Carol participated.   A check of the 1960 REMEMBRANCER, page 47, shows that Carol was very active in school activities, and a leader.   She was girl's sports editor for the REMEMBRANCER as a Junior, a member of GAA grades 7-12 and secretary of the GAA Board as a Senior, but there's no answer to the question of what sports.

Glancing into the girl's sports section, you'll see that Carol played Volleyball, Field Hockey and Basketball.

I've felt very proud of the link with Carol all this time!

I like to visualize Carol's spirit frolicking athletically and care free across the sky.
